Bas van der Hoeven


OverviewBas is based in the Wellington Region, and works from both the Johnsonville and Paraparaumu office. He also travels to see clients in Upper Hutt and Wellington. Bas is a specialist in Drama Therapy and has worked as a therapist with children, youth and adults in his native Netherlands, United Kingdom and Spain. He has been in New Zealand since 2001 and established the first multi-disciplinary Creative Therapy Centre here, at the Cerebral Palsy Society.
He conducts Drama Therapy sessions for groups and individuals. The clients range from the physically disabled, those with brain injuries, Asperger’s, the intellectually disabled to those with bipolar, conduct disorder and other psychological conditions.
Apart from his work as a drama therapist, he also offers staff-training programs, supervision and counsels people with work related issues through the AEP process.  
Drama TherapyBas has a specialist four-year degree in Psycho therapy specialising in Drama Therapy which provides an internationally recognised professional qualification.
Bas got funding to do the first drama therapy program for people with dementia/Alzheimers. Attached to this program was a research component which attracted international attention.
Bas has developed and conducts a drama therapy program with dementia sufferers. Research outcomes from this have resulted in invitations from leading medical centres (e.g. the Irene Swindells Alzheimer's Residential Care Program/ San Francisco), international recognition, and support.
